Aftermarket rear window defroster ideas?

Post by Hobart »

Happy Saturday everyone!

My 1979 Wagoneer has no rear window defroster. Have any of you added some type of defroster to your trucks? I remember years ago I had a small 12v defroster unit I got from JC Whitney that you could put wherever you wanted and aim it at a window, but it never worked very well.
Any ideas?

Thanks!
Bill

Have you looked at these?

The only rear ones that work for sure are the electronic strip kind. Unfortunately, those look out of place on older vehicles, but I am considering it anyway...

I would make sure you get ones that have wiring that mounts at the bottom of the window so you can still roll it up and down without issue. I think the newest Grand's had something like this stock, so maybe someone can chime in on how they worked or post a picture.

I know the last Wag's had finicky rear defrosters, washer's and wipers that they shared with XJ/YJ era Jeeps. The wiring diagrams here mention the rear defroster:

A guide to fixing the rear-window defroster's at the old mothership site:
