Finally! I've found a forum for support and inspiration. I currently am going through my 74 Cherokee S with a 360. I found it at an impound sales yard and was smitten. I've had the seats reupholstered, bought new carpets and a bunch of seals and whatnots from BJ's and am currently in the midst of a color change paint job. This is my third fsj. I've also owned a 73 Wagoneer with a 360/manual trans, and a 74 Cherokee with a 258 (desparetly underpowered). My daily is a 09 Tacoma 4x4 standard cab, and I have a 83 Audi quattro special occasion car. My son and I are also restoring a 76 Lancia Scorpion. Previous other jeeps have been a 05 TJ (miss that one a lot), a 94 Cherokee, and an 89 Cherokee 2 door which I also miss. But these big heavy jeeps appeal to me greatly. So that's me, just a car guy in general. Hopefully, this will be the forum that helps me get my 74 rolling again.
Welcome to the site. There a lot of people here who will be glad to help, but it sounds like you have a very strong background so this should be a piece of cake. Others have heard my rant, but RUST, that is the big killer. They left so much unpainted metal in these things. So good luck with that.
I use photo bucket as well. Upload pics from the phone to the computer, resize them in the computer and then send them to photobucket. Works well.
Still working on posting pics. Sorry for the delay. I setup a photobucket account, but my iPad is old and can't update to make it work easily. Still working on it. Probably have to use the wife's computer to get them to work.
But on with the news. Today my boss very generously hooked me up with a built Chevy 350. A bit over what I need though. Dual quad Edelbrock CFM 500's, gear drive, alluminum heads with gold rollers rockers, headers, the works. Basically, he went big block with his Nova, and didn't want to hassle with selling or storing this engine. He claims 350 hp. Can't remember what cam and I don't know the compression ratio, but he's going to bring specs in for me. It's an awesome gift. The temptation is to swap out the 360 and find a GM TH400. I was planning on going through the AMC 360, but it's an unknown quantity. The 350 support ability is the big positive, but an engine conversion may be a bunch of headaches that negate it. So I'm asking for opinions. I basically had a known condition well built swappable engine fall in my lap and it's tempting. May have to downgrade the carb and maybe cam, but I need to find out more about what this engine is first. Right now I'm waiting for the mother of all thunderstorms to pass by so I can unload it out of the truck.
I'm certainly no AMC purist but as another first year Cherk owner I would keep it as stock as possible with the exceptions being safety and comfort items.

Well, here's my first attempt at uploading photos. We'll see if it works without m breaking the Internet. Should be the Cherokee when I found it, The current paint project, my son's Scorpion project (which we're heading out to work on now), and the on a recent drive.
