Has anybody successfully adapted an XJ/S10 Blazer or Scout 2 tire carrier over?
Thanks
Wow, I was just thinking of this and going to make a thread about it myself lol!

The ones that swing out from the side of the truck? The Wagoneer sheet metal is way too thin for that. Some FSJ's came with them and there were reinforcing brackets on the inside of the truck to try and distribute the load if I recall the pictures I saw on IFSJA properly. But they weren't very common and I wouldn't trust them with a larger than stock tire.
1990 Grand Wagoneer 440 swap, 727 MVB, NP208, D44 F/R 4.10 gears ZIP locker up front Detroit out back. So much other stuff. Check out the build.
Make your own bumper. As mentioned, the sheet metal is too thin. The factory swing out carriers had sheet metal that was designed for the load. I like the valley swing out carrier, but yes, it always felt a slight bit too flimsy when in the open position.
Internal reinforcements would be a must was wondering how strong the old FSJ Valley carriers were/are. I had a factory one on an XJ and there were brackets inside the bumper and the body
A true rear bumper with tire carrier and fuel can holders are in the eventual plans but since when have I ever followed thru on anything I've ever built? HA! Jeep still doesn't run
I've got an old bike carrier for the hitch might rig up something like this

For sure.....But that's assuming you can get the back window down to get the tailgate open, right?

BlackBart and I have talked about this several times, we feel that the best way would be to build a bumper capable supporting a swing out tire carrier. My landcruiser had one that hung off the body the rattling as you went down the road would drive you insane!

Keep me posted if BB comes up with anything.

I was thinking of a bumper mounted one, not body mounted. I really would like one that could fit a 35" tire but not block the license plate or tail lights but I don't think that's possible.
