Front Driveshaft Install

Post by jongreve »

So does the CV joint on the driveshaft mate to the front pumpkin, or the t-case?

Mine did not come with one so I do not know and I'm having troubles finding pictures, the TSM leads me to believe that the joint should be bolted to the T-case, but there is much less clearance for bolts there, and the joint would run crazy close (within 1/4") to the transmission drain pan. It seems that bolting the joint to the front pumpkin would be easier to install, but that just seems wrong to me.

The CARDAN joint should go on the Transfer case.

Yup. That's the way it goes. And YES, there is very little room to get in there. :- (

But it CAN be done. You just have to get creative.

HINT: Bolt up the transfer case end FIRST. That way, you can rotate the driveshaft to get to all the bolts. If you bolt up the front end first, you will have to lift a tire or unlock your hubs (if you have them) to rotate the driveshaft to get to all the bolts. Thus, it's easier to do the t-case end first. : D
