This is my next ride though it technically belongs to Krista. Not safe to have my name on a FSJ title right now. I might do something dumb ya know.
Luna was gifted to Krista for her birthday 2004 and has gone through some repairs and upgrades since we got her to the house. Need to get her on the road again. I bought an HEI for her a few months back but that ended up in Phoebe after the Tucson debacle in May. I have an HEI I got for Wally and never got it installed. Good for us. Just regapped the new plugs and assembled the Mallory. It is a broken Lockright in the back that needs to be pulled and trashed and put the original spiders back in. Getting through those things will make her a driver.
There is a story on the locker. First, I put an Eaton lunch box locker in it when the tranny and tcase were replaced with rebuilt units. We broke it right away in the back yard. So, the Eaton broke out a chunk of steel outside one of the springs and was toast. Put the Lockright in and trailered it to Moab and hit a few trails. The other locker was winding up and releasing while driving straight down the road. All the tires match, 33" MTRs. When it released, it bangs. It had a new hardened shaft with both lockers. I have had it apart a few times and the specs are right on thrust washers. I don't understand why this is happening unless the axle or carrier have been damaged previously. I am OK with running it open to get it driving again and don't want to bust another axle on the highway. We have other axle options queued up.
I do not see another semi-float in your future.
Do it!
