RockLaurence shop truck project

Post by rocklaurence »

I have been working on this thing FOREVER and its time to post up here. It was one of my salvage wrecks that I resurrected. I've put 8 lug axles, new engine/trans etc etc...However, the ultimate plan is to use this as my test mule including a Chevy Diesel conversion kit! Recently, I installed a set of '90 Wagoneer doors and Ford mirrors and want to show them off :-bd

I've started the process of the Fatina (fake patina) paint job that will look rusty and faded for my Vintage Auto Parts business 8-)

Are you going for the rusted up look, and then clear over it to then preserve it?

Good looking truck. The rusty look is there, it even looks like your brow rusted off... :D

Yep, I bought it with the rotted top. I have 3 tops at the shop to build a replacement ;) I'm not so much looking at the "Rust" patina but faded. I may take it to bare metal in some places and then satin clear coat to protect it. But most likely Ill fade it from flat black primer to gray primer to color with a little white for oxidation 8-)

Ok, started the Fatina paint and the only issue is that I should have had a Rust/Red base instead of dark gray. Its not enough of a contrast with the black base color.
I added the two colors to the door for the Business lettering. I'll put vynal letters before layering the paint onto the doors, peel off the letters exposing the two colors that are there now ad then fade them in.

Has a pretty realistic look. Looks like it sat out in the desert for a few decades :)

And while I like H2 wheels, not sure they are matching the look.

I agree, a set of 16.5" steelies with Q78s would look good ;)

Jackman's? I'm pretty OLD buuut? I've got a set of sixteen inch, 8 hole "D" steel wheels that may look good once correctly "aged". I'm looking for a set of 35's to put on the 16" D's

I doubt they ever came in a 16" version, might be some knock-offs being produced.

Jackmans are the only wagon style wheel I would ever run. They are cool, and aluminum.

I see that they're 8 lug--15's (do they fit) or 16.5's? I've never seen a set of those and they are aluminum--really.

Mine are steel 16.5's. I dont remember seeing any aluminum, saw a butt load of VW's. I have been watching for a spare or two and have not found any.

I'm looking at installing a set of rear air springs to increase my load capacity. Any recommendations on what to buy?
