Timing Cover selection

Post by Whtshos »

I pulled the motor out of the TANK last weekend for a trip to Tyler TX (MABBCO) for a fresh reman exchange. I noticed the timing cover had a bad rash from water pump impellors, the front seal area has been hit by what I guess was a HB coming aprt and the DS large pan bolt hole has been stripped and also broken thru into the case cover.
Definately time for a complete kit. I have found 4 options during my searching.
FSJPARTS, Summit, Bulltear and BJ's. The parts from Summit are not a kit but available.
I am not to terribly interrested in you customer service experience, but the quality of the parts. This will not be a vendor bashing topic please.
The TANK will be making a one way adventure to the NW corner of Montana this fall with the boy behind the wheel. Reliability is very important. What tips or tricks are to be observed during install or is it plug and play? A new HB will also be installed while its all blown apart.
I appreciate your input and advise for the upcoming assembly.

I have used BJs and it was a perfect fit, but will probably go Bulltear next...

NOS or Bulltear are the only ones OI would use & you can't find NOS. I just bought 2 originals of a member on the IFSJA site. Your only real choice to get eh best quality is used or Bulltear. I've heard many stories about the aftermarkets. As requested I'm not going there but it's a big gamble.

If you can't improve it why waste your time?

I was on a spending spree and bought the bulltear nickel plated cover. I have no regrets. It looks great and carries very good oil pressure
