Project J300

Post by Glad-e-8er »

Bought this truck almost a year ago on consignment. I never got to talk to the prior owner, but I liked what I saw and took the plunge.

The 383 Stroker and new automatic transmission had already been installed. The body was extremely straight and complete (except for tailgate) with no visible rust except for a bit of surface rust. The exterior had a grey primer finish which has a cool patina. The dashboard was mostly intact and the remainder of the interior had been stripped. That's the good news. The bad news is almost every thing else needed attention.

So far I have replaced:
most hoses
steering coupler
waterpump
thermostat
radiator
parts of the exhaust system
front wheel bearings
window and door seals
choke cable
spark plugs
distributor cap
most seals and gaskets
tires
bench seat
shocks
and many small misc. items.

Repairs are too numerous to mention.

Below are a few pics of the current state of affairs:

Work to be done:

restore interior
install sound system
install AC
install power brakes
replace tailgate (anyone know where I can find one?)

Wish me luck!

Nice truck! FYI, the choke cable and e brake light are reversed, BUT, how's that 383 feel when you get on it?!?!? Man, that must feel gooooooood! I dig those deep dish rims, too.

Thanks for the tip regarding the choke/e-light.

Yeah, the 383 is a blast, especially on the low end, you can feel the power!
