Spring Over Axle help

Post by Jeffsj »

I have a problem that I'm sure other guys are having with the SOA swap. I can't get a hold of the high steer knuckle I need to complete it. I have all the parts I need from Bj's except this. Bj's supplier has been telling them 2-3 weeks for about 4 months now, so they have no idea when they will be available again. Has anyone got any other ideas of how I can complete this project? It sucks to be held up by one measly part. :banghead:

I saw several other pairs of them on ebay.

Or swap to a king pin D60 front. They are already milled and ready to accept high steer arms from the factory. Plus they are much stronger and already setup for SOA.

If I just swap to the GM knuckles, will the rest of the original parts work, or will I need to replace other parts also?

My neighbor has two pairs of the Chevy knuckles. You'll need to machine one, I'd mail it to Sky and buy their arms for it.

The GM/Jeep knuckles are exactly the same, so yes, all your stuff will work.

If your heart was really set on that BJ's Knuckle setup you may want to give PartsMike a call.
http://www.partsmike.com/store/store.ph ... how_detail

I think the only difference is that BJ's has the drag link arm either tapered for our TRE's or a bung welded in to match (been awhile sine I looked closely at how they did it but I will be wheeling with one tomorrow and try to remember to check).
If you google 60036 steering knuckle you will see several folks selling them.
Possibly someone still has one and you would get the machine work done yourself.
or
Just go the GM/Jeep flat top knuckle route as suggested above and do the mill-drill-tap and add your own parts.
I would suggest you go with a tall steering arm if you do that for spring clearance.
Northwest Fab, WFO Concepts, Sky Manufacturing, OTT and several others have the tall arms.

Tad, I just want to say that I love your steering cross brace! That sure won't give me any problems again. :-bd Now, if I can just get this knuckle thing ironed out, I can get to work on the SOA kit. Can't wait!

Parts mike is top notch! I had problems with mine and they talked me through it and gave me a hell of a deal on my full high steer setup.

Mike has done good by me too. I used to answer questions on his site then it went down for awhile and I forgot about it.
