drivers door takes two times to shut.

Post by ericthered »

I've got an 80 and 79 and the drivers door always takes two times to close, unless I slam it pretty good. They ave older weatherstrip so thats not the issue. I think it's more in the striker.

Any DIY fixes or am I now having to hunt a better latch?

This can also happen if the door is sagging. Does the bottom of the door look like its been rubbing on the door seal?

But does it line up good before it starts to hit the strike? Or does it ride up on it?

Properly adjusted, everything will line up with the strike removed. It's only there to hold the door closed.

Back of the door can sag due to the hinges wearing or being maladjusted.

Lines up good before it hits. Its like the door seal is keeping it from locking fully

i agree adjust the striker, however check the hinges to make sure there is no play in them, open the door grab the lower rear corner and lift up (rock) you should absolutely have zero play if you do you will continue to have issues. being over 40 years old , maintenance or lack of (lubricant) the hinge pins can be worn or the bushings worn but i would do a double take on the door attach hardware.
