Oil MOD reroute to mains

Post by 1978J10REDWHITE »

Read that there is an additional oil MOD for my 401 Block.

Incorporates Drilling a new oil passage from main cap to lifter oil passage, mirroring current factory design.
Basically rerouting oil feed to Mains from other side lifter passage.

Purpose of oil from the thrust side of rotation and mains are fed more efficiently from this MOD.

I MFG a sturdy jig brace for drill bit alignment.
Jig for bit has maybe 001-0015" Clarence so this should be sufficient keeping bit aligned..

Any advice or experience in performing this MOD?
thx.

Have read this is not needed on a DD. Only for some level of building a racing engine as rpm's are higher?

One thing I known since the 70's, was a deeper oil pan & P/U tube, for a better vol of oil and keeping it "CLEAN" and filter fresh is the life blood on all machinery.
Especially engines.
Not once ever in 55+ years had one single oil related issue on any engine I owned.
And I overworked my engine routinely daily.
Race & street cars always had deep (or side of pan box added) oil pans & tubes I MFG my own, and will do on this one.
I ponder how many issues like 'mains bearings' we hear about , on these forums have, issues rooted in poor oil & filter maintenance caused-induced?
In stock form AMC V8's oil properly.
With modern knowledge about clearances done right, main line hone machining, the Mid plate design, Plus the advent of superior oil chemistry.
There is enough going for the design as is.
