Knoxville AMC Show - Recap

Post by Scotty54 »

Decent turnout for one of the smallest segments of the collector vehicle hobby. I think the midweek rain forecast kept some home but show day was perfect. A little rain Friday during the swap meet but vendors did good. Lots of parts moving. I sold one item and bought several myself, but very few Jeep parts. The showfield was a tree lined parking lot at a junior college.

Wide variety of AMC and related cars, I think there were more Marlin's than AMX's. In addition to AMC, a 1932 Essex, Nash Metropolitan, pair of 50's Hudsons, and a Kaiser Manhattan (what styling!). There was also a Lerma, a Mexican-built AMC from 1982.

As for Jeeps - my 77 Cherokee, a pair of CJ's (one with a 304, the other with an LS swap), a J10 Laredo with every imaginable option, a J20, a Willys wagon, and a very nice pair of Comanche pickups.

For the race fans, a tribute NASCAR Matador, a stunning SS/AMX, several AMX and Spirits in drag racing form, and the real treat - Mark Donohue's 1971 Javelin from the Penske Trans-Am team. I can't begin to describe the sound of the open exhaust 304!

Cool, AMC only shows are always on the smaller side compared to other makes. But what they lack in numbers, they make up for in dedication.

They had some cool activities too. One was a driving tour to a car museum in Greeneville, a second tour to a covered bridge, a baseball game, and several took a side trip to the Tail of the Dragon.

Scotty54, not sure if you are on Facebook or not but I saw a post on an fsj group wondering who had the blue cherokee at the knoxville show (I could clearly see it was yours based on the pics). Just thought I’d let you know you are facebook famous

No, I don't do Facebook. Honestly I can't make sense of their page format. My wife has an account and I looked around but there are a ton of FSJ groups so I didn't see any reference to the Knoxville show. Thanks for the heads up!

That Comanche with the hood scoop is sweet. Not very conventional, but it kind of fits the truck nicely.
