My Gorgeous 10 Footer

After seven months of mechanical work from one end to the other, followed by a few weeks of cosmetic work, my 77 Cherokee (401 and QT) is presentable! Still a little rough around the edges, some of the cosmetics involved new bondo over old bondo but a definite improvement and bides my time for patch panels down the road. Still some mechanical work - cylinder #4 has a burnt valve I suspect, but it's running well enough to enjoy it until I can pull the head. Going to the Jeep Jamboree in Gate City, Virginia tomorrow. One FSJ in a sea of CJ's and Wranglers I expect!

I recall photos from last year and there were other FSJs. A few from here.

And I love your waggy. Exact color combo I would choose for one.

Good to meet you at the Jamboree today; is just as nice in person as the pix.

Will mark the Jamboree on my calendar for next year. Was a nice event.

Yes, a pretty good day and great meeting a fellow forum member. Been going to car shows for 45 years but that was the first all-Jeep event. Modern Jeepers seem to be focused on accessories and fancy lighting, and with $$$$ rims I expect many don't see much off-road time. Not knocking them at all - still cool to see the custom work and it was interesting with "showJeeps" mixed in with mud-covered trail veterans and classic CJ's. Hopefully you saw the 55 Willys pickup that came in late - definitely the star of the show. The ultimate Jeep in my opinion.

Gate City has another Jeep show in September. If I can hold my motor together I might try and make it.

Very nice. Spruce Tip Green metallic. I wonder why it's white under the hood ... original color?

The OP's Jeep seems hardly a 10-fotter, looking at the smooth reflections in the glossy paint.

Agreed; the green Willys truck was my favorite too. The engine compartment was very well done. Wiring was repro woven-pattern rayon - added a nice vintage feel.

Thanks for the heads up on the show - will make plans to be there.

@Scotty54, what did you end up going with as far as tow hooks go? Or did you just throw the winch up front and call it good?

I have not done the tow hooks yet. I do want to have my fabricator eyeball the connection of the front crossmember to the frame rails, to reinforce it. I plan to have hook mounts fabricated to attach to the bumper bolts on the frame rails, inside the wheelwell. Nothing but a mounting plate to extend down a few inches with a standard hook welded to it. But my fabricator may have a better idea. I have found that making stuff is typically the same price as purchasing off the shelf, but better quality and heavier duty. Of course off-the-shelf is far more limited for FSJ owners.

I've been sidetracked by a bad cylinder - I suspect an exhaust valve based on the compression test and exhaust miss. Still on the road but next on my list is pulling the head. The off-road plans are on the back burner. Otherwise a very healthy engine with uniform compression at 145 psi.
