Road Salt

So good (?) news for our rigs lasting. The government is going through salt so fast that we're running out of it, and in the not-so-distant future, there won't be enough to keep dumping it all over the roads.

I'm a little worried about what they'll come up with to replace it. Hopefully they'll just go to gravel and sand, like they use out west.

It may also be interesting once they stop using the salt, to see how that changes the environment around the roads. How the plant life (and thus the wildlife) responds to the lack of salt.

And before anybody says anything about "salt is renewable we're not gonna run out", the deposits used for road salt are disappearing, and it's being spread into the environment in the NE and midwest. I don't really see the ditches all being torn up to get more salt. Yes, salt is renewable, but it's harder to extract.
