Trim Code Decoding

Post by millerguy76 »

I see there are various messages where people are asking for their trim tags to be decoded. Then someone will respond with details.
Yes, I would like to decode my trim tag but the bigger question, where are these folks getting the anwers from? If there is a place they are pulling the details from, why not just post a link to the list? I think it would be a great help to all

OK, so does anyone have details on my trim code?

J274099 25
07 3C 1DQ
VIN NUMBER

I can only find that 3C is for the Garnet paint. No idea what the rest of the numbers are. If someone has a magic book, please share

Thanks

Need the year. '76? Suggest you put year/model/equipment in your sig file so its in every post. You can list your VIN and x-out the serial number part, if you want to remain anonymous.

You can buy the '74-80 parts book on CD-ROM for like $25 on RockAuto. Have not looked lately, but I assume it's still available. I bought the paper copy from BJ's more than a decade ago, for my own use. If you bought the book you could look up your parts too. The TSM, free to read and download on the Tom Collins site, gives the VIN plate layout and will remove all doubt about which field is which.

1DQ does not match any '76 code. The trim codes are many pages from the parts book; there's like 100 codes for each year, and many decades of years. It would be a pain to post all of them, esp. when the book is cheap on CD-ROM. Maybe you could buy the book and post it online, if you are so moved.

Looking at your old posts, you appear to have an '84 J10.

The code would be in here in the seats section. I do not have this book.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check out a parts book. I might even have an old one lying around. I never thought to look in there

So I found a CD version of the 1984 parts catalog but I don't have a laptop with a CD drive any longer.

Not really wanting to dump more than $50 on a parts catalog (when I can be putting it towards replacement parts). Does anyone here have details on what my trim tag?

Thanks for any help.
