**2023 FSJ Ouray Invasion Dates**

July 17th - July 23rd

Our KOA contact, Ilka has been kind enough to close tent sites 44-52 and RV sites 111, 111A, 111B, 112, so that only those with FSJ may book them. While we got lucky with non FSJ neighbors being good sports (except one ) it makes for a great experience if all these sites are reserved by FSJ members.

**The easiest and best way to book, is to email Ilka at ilka@ouraykoa.com and copy fsjouray@gmail.com so I can help make sure everyone is getting booked without any issues.

If you’d like to come in a couple of days before these dates and leave a couple days after, just include that in your email to her!
These sites will be closed to us to book until September of this year. In general, we will be given this year’s rates until the end of 2022. In January 2023, the rates will increase, but we do not know by how much.

I did a little house cleaning here and there was a lot of dust. This thread is stuck now and 2022 stuff is unstuck.

Good luck with your efforts to get to Ouray for another FSJ Invasion in 2023.

I will be there, just haven't planned out where I'll be staying. I hope to camp in the national forest the majority of the week. Any suggestions on dispersed/primitive camp sites?

The nearest ones I found last year were up around Imogene Pass and Yankee Boy Basin trail heads, there are a few on the west side of Engineer. I didn't look further north like around Last Dollar. I have it on the calendar as well and plan on dispersed camping.

I'm kind of tempted to go, but I'm concerned about taking the '71 (our only FSJ) out there. It's bone stock and will be on all seasons (probably new ones by then, but still all seasons), stock suspension, and I'm looking at putting the mudflaps on. Will I be able to get through the trails we're doing, or will it not be worth it to make the haul out there?

it will do most of them without issue, in reality the only one it really won't is Poughkeepsie Gulch, doable but well may encounter some body damage and will need a tug/winched at least twice. I'd shy away from west side of Engineer pass, and Black Bear Pass, doable would just be a lot of exercise. I'd bring an extra spare tire, the roads/trails can be hard on tires. The west side of Engineer is easily bypass able.

At the moment I have this event on the calendar. Probably only be there 3-4 days. it's a good time. It would be easy to spend a month there just exploring and wandering around.

Thanks Yeller! Yeah as long as it doesn't get body damage from the wheeling, I'm cool with it. And it's a ~13 hour drive--I wouldn't do that without a solid spare anyway

Next question--anybody got a set of 30x9.5" all terrains on 6-lug wheels I can pick up and use for it? Just kidding

That's hot!!
Hopefully it's not that hot this year. I'm planning on taking about 4 days to get there with a stop or two on the way. From Ouray I'm heading to my mom's in N CA for a few days and then back home and back to work.

That's awesome! My dad has one in his dentside--I love having that. My mom's not big on it 'cause it makes her hair go everywhere tho...and that truck has A/C.

Mine isn't too bad for heat with the wing windows and all 4 door windows down. I wish I could roll down the rear w/o it sucking in exhaust fumes. Guess that'll have to wait 'till it's electric

Could cut in a camper style vent in the top, just behind the rear seat, that would allow good air flow through the cab too.

Not that any of us want to cut into good metal for that, but considering getting a small rooftop A/C unit for mine here in AZ, rather than fixing the factory air.

Neighbor had one on a mid 90's full size family van he drove for decades, and said it would near frost up the windows on 100+ days in about 10 minutes.
