‘86 Wagoneer Magnum 5.2 swap

Post by Ralphie361 »

Hello everyone, this is my project Jeep for my wife, she has always wanted one (I think they’re cool too 😬). It’s a 1986 Grand Wagoneer that I bought without a drivetrain and took a ‘95 Grand Cherokee 5.2 46rh donor to repower it. It’s been a fun work in progress, we’ve put about 6k miles on it and just installed a katzkin upholstery kit. Next is body work and woodgrain, always another project!

Welcome to the asylum. I was seriously contemplating a Mopar Magnum motor swap early on in mine, but discovered the LS platform had better vendor selections when it came time for conversions. That, and the mentality of local Dodge owners is the vehicle must be complete garbage by the time it is parted out or else it can't be sold or scrapped.

Very nice ride. :-bd

I've read on IFSJA that the magnum engines dang near bolt in,

The magnum swap was pretty simple, I built mounts to adapt the original amc biscuits to the side of the magnum block, the transmission mount bolted right up. I did have to rework the crossmember to clear the driveshaft because I used the overdrive transmission instead of a 727.
