I posted this on the other site tonight but then noticed that its pretty slow moving lately... I came over here and found this section. My new engine build fits perfectly here...
Anyway, its a Magnum 360 thats going in my 96 ZJ Orvis Edition trail toy...
I keep drooling on my keyboard looking at it. I cant wait to get it set in and running!!!
And yes.... I see the runs on the pulley. It wasnt dry yet when I tossed it on for the poser shot. Its fixed now.
Yeah, I will almost hate to get it dirty the first time...
It's a balanced 360 with:
.020 overbore
Decent sized cam
Iron Ram EQ heads
Modded kegger intake
Oversized throttle body (52mm)
Mike Leach headers
24lb injectors (not on yet)
SCT custom tune
And a few other goodies...
It's my first engine build... I'm really excited about it!
It should really get that ZJ moving up the hills...
Oh, and that filter is going through the hood and getting covered by mustang gt hood scoop.
The Chrysler 360 dates back to 1971 when it came out in carbureted form. It recieved TBI in the 1980's and MPFI in 1992 to become the 245 Net Hp 5.9 Magnum before it was phased out in 2003. There were other design updates along the way, but the basic structure stayed mostly the same. Chrysler kept updating it to keep it competative, and it became nearly a perfect V8 in it's last form.
The AMC 360 dates back to 1970 when it came out in carbureted form. It stayed that way with very few updates untill it was canned in 1991. No TBI, no MPFI. By 1984, it was obsolete and producing less than 160 Hp. Some early versions were good for 210.
I wish AMC had updated their engines with TBI in the mid 1980's like everyone else was doing. I also wish Chrysler had canned their old 360 and updated the AMC 360 into the 5.9 Magnum instead. The AMC engine has more performance potential and could have put out an easy 260 Hp with the right MPFI system.

My family has an '03 Dodge Durango with the 5.9. Last year for that engine. I remember looking at the torque curves of the 5.9 vs. the new 5.7 Hemi. The Hemi was rated at higher peak Hp and torque, but the 5.9 had it beat in both areas at low RPM. Typical Hemi vs. Wedge fight.
I'm still holding out for a turbocharged MPFI AMC 327 pumping out 400 Hp.
