Expected results of flat towing with transmission in 1st and transfer case in low range!

So a 3.6L can't handle 45,000 rpm (roughly, based on math of it being in 1st gear low range), go figure :P

Yeah, they don’t build em like they use to!

Bah! Some JB Weld will fix that right up.

I dunno. How could you not feel the drag from the first time you tried to move? Would be almost as bad as someone back there standing on the brakes. At least pulling away from a stop.

Smells fishy to me.

I can see someone new to motor homes doing this. Take a 40,000 lbs diesel pusher and a jeep in first gear/low range which in that jeep is 84:1, wouldn’t take much to get the engine turning. Never underestimate the power of stupidity.

Wouldn't take much to get the Jeep rolling with it's own engine. Would take a lot to push or pull it.

I saw that when it was first released.

Seriously they could've put it in 4Lo and it wouldn't have been great for things, but if they had simply put the transmission in N...

Frankly I don't understand why it didn't just drag the tires--how did it manage to break stuff and not just drag the tires until they were flat or whatever?

Lots of physics going on, get mass spinning and it wants to keep spinning….. and there is enough traction in 4wd to get it spinning. Behind a big motor home you will never feel it.

Even if the trans was in neutral, the t-case still would have grenaded itself from traveling at those speeds. The planetary would have been spinning at almost 13K rpm.

If the vehicle was fairly light weight, and with small tires, they likely would have just slid on the ground. But you take a vehicle that is heavy, with large tires, and in 4wd, the tires are going to have enough grip to turn the internals.

My bad I was thinking park rather than 1st gear
