Spare tire covers.

Post by candymancan »

So with my new tires i bought a few months ago and my new hitch mounted folding spare tire carrier i made ive been wanting a tire cover. It looks nice with the tire exposed for all to see.. but sun dry rots tires.. and id rather not have a spare tire dry rot in 3 years and never be used.

Any ideas on a good spare tire cover.. design ideas for custom ones or what designs you guys use or like ? Id probably like to keep the tire cover mostly black. As my rear main seal leaks so much oil driving on a parkway splatters oil on my tire and tailgate lol..

So white would show the oil stains hah..

Gatta get that seal fixed but with other pressing repairs and mods i just keep filling it with oil instead lol

I think I would move the license plate before I worried about a tire cover.

I have never used a tire cover on my Wranglers. I do 5 tire rotations, so every tire gets driven on. I have not seen any dry rotting on them, and thats in the rather hot California sun.

The trick may be finding one that fits your tire size.

And yeah, surprised you have not been ticketed for it covering your plate.

Its an old picture.. but thanks i already moved it using the license plate bracket from the front bumper to the rear bumper as i have a factory brush guard for the front license plate . I Drilled holes in the bumper. Bolted it on . Oh and if youre concerned i added a light for it too.. did all this like 6 months ago when i made that folding hitch carrier. That pic was just what i had on hand

But here a pic at 3am.. :banghead:
