JEEP Adventures in the PNW.

As my addiction to all things JEEP rages on, I had to find a way to document my perpetual state of JEEP madness. So here is goes:

I snagged this 65 Wagoneer from the tiny farming town of Dixie, WA. yesterday. I left home @ 8:30am, and wrapped up at 10pm.

This one is a 1965 Wagoneer originally Amber Poly inside and out. She has the 327, three on the tree, and dealer installed AC. I’ll be cleaning her up and reselling it.

The PO bought it with the motorcycle carrying bumpers already on it in 1970. He drove it for two weeks and it “stopped running”. He dragged it to the back yard and it sat there ever since. He passed away in 2017 and the family now it was time to sell as no one in the family really wanted the wag.

Can’t say those bumpers are attractive, but that is one heck of a find! How many miles are on the thing? Could be a pretty simple fix if only driven 5 years.
Wonder how it ended up white.

Very Cool. Seriously.... drove it for 2 weeks and parked it for 50 years. Any interior pics?

Until the last photo I almost thought you got it running and drove it home :)

But those bumpers, those are something else.

Thanks guys! Lol, those bumpers are something else. It got a repaint in white before the mammoth bumpers went on based upon where the Amber Poly paint is- like a a shadow effect of where the stock bumpers would be.

I think he bought it used- in 1970, then drove it for two weeks. I didn’t look at the mileage yet.

This AM, I only got it vacuumed out and scrubbed the passenger’s side and tailgate then it started to snow. Oh, I also had to put everything (tools and tow related stuff) away, too.

Oh, Stuka, you were right- the 24 volt Jack and Heinz winch does run perfectly on a regular 12v batter, so thanks for the tip!

It has 31k and change on the odometer. I’ll post up pics of the interior after a vacuuming and a serious bath.

Oops, the PO bought it in 74.

Those side mirrors are interesting, haven't seen ones like that before.

I’m pretty sure they’re Rambler side view mirrors.

It has 4 hubcaps: 3 rambler, one Buick. Two of the Rambler caps had the centers cut out for the front hubs to clear.

You do got it bad. :fsj:

It looks better than some that are 25 years newer. Some 287/327 engines died early because of the Teflon tooth timing chain gears. If it has bent pushrods, that is a clue.

Lol, I know. It’s just the way I’m wired, I guess, haha.

I haven’t looked into the engine bay too close yet, but now that you say that info about the 327, I’ll pull the valve covers off and see what I can find. Thanks!

I plan of squirting oil in the cylinders and see what happens when I turn her over (after trying to see if it spins freely by hand) after soaking the cylinders. I do not plan on retrying to get the 327 up and running. The tanny and t case are coated in layers of grease and road grime... which I thought was weird considering it was supposedly on the road for 10 years, or so.

Odds are I’ll just pass this one along to someone who will try to at least keep it on the road; maybe take another one in on trade for her- one I can not feel guilty about using for parts to maintain my herd.

Here’s a weird story: my neighbor (whom I don’t really know) four houses down goes to church for an “old guy coffee & doughnuts” session on Tuesdays and a “new” guy shows up in a 1977 Z Code 401 J20.

The new guy mentions he wants to sell how JEEP truck. My neighbor tells the new guy (who is 70) that he has a neighbor with “a dozen old jeeps” and always has guys over with old jeeps.

This guy shows up today while I am at work and leaves his name and number. So I call and set up a time to look at his truck. He lives only 9 minutes away.

She’s a stunner! But out of my league for price. What a beaut!

That is a beautiful truck!

What did he want for it?

It was really nice. I think he’s somewhere around 20-25k.

It was so nice, I couldn’t even negotiate- I guess my addiction has it’s limits? He has a spare tailgate, a spare rear bumper, and a box full of parts he’s collected over the years, too.

The aux gas tank / tool box in the back is a custom made unit. Way cool.

He can probably get that given a broad enough listing. Its one of the cleanest J20's I have seen in a long time.

That-is-nice! Always wanted one of the trucks.

Adventures at home. That snow shovel wore me out. 2001-2002.
