My son and I are replacing his rear axle sway bar and he spots this:
It’s zip tied to other wires, but does anyone know what it is for? The 97 TJ has the manual tranny and the np231 t case if that somehow jogs the memory bank.
Does the cover come off? It's electrical (I think the diff breather check valve is a good guess) but you indicate it zip tied to other parts. That would indicate aftermarket, they don't use zip ties at the factory.
It looks like it might be for trailer wiring if that cap comes off.
The two wires that are attached to it run right along side the reverse light harness and the 4wd indicator light harness.
It is laying on top on the transfer case. I don’t want to pop off the top because if I break it, I’ll have no idea what it is and won’t be able to replace it.
My 04 doesn’t have this thing, I checked. Maybe it is aftermarket.
The top 8 digit number I cant read but its 5600 something. Google that number, it looks like a mopar part number. Or post the 8 digits and I can look it up. I never noticed that when I had my TJ. You have my attention. I'm curious myself about this one. I kinda believe that's if you had an automatic, like it would go into an AW4 for the TCM to link to it but dont quote me. I know alot of that generation had a generic harness used for multiple options
