Ok I picked up a 73 j2000 is decent shape one owner 84000 miles. I plan on leaving exterior alone. Drivetrain I am thinking of a durango hemi swap with trans then a transfer case out of a early 90s d150 to get passengers side drop. What are your thoughts? Diyhemi.com has alot of info on making stock harness stand alone. Has anyone done this?

Hemi swaps are pretty easy these days. When you get the engine, make sure it doesn't have death rattle (Hemi's like to drop valve seats). You can get the engine from any number of vehicles though. Ram's, Durango's, or Grand Cherokees. Just be sure it was from a 4wd so the pan and trans output are what you want.

I have a lead on a 06 durango with a bad trans for $450. What causes death rattle?

Failing valve seats. Just google hemi death rattle or valve seat fix.

Trying to figure out TC. J2000 has quadratrac (dana20). Full time. Passenger side drop
Durango has 545RFE transmission with a NP244D. Dri ers side drop.
I'm thinking of the NP241 passenger side drop out of a D150. Anyone know where to start to get speed sensor signal for ECU/TCU. Out of the np241

Isn't the quaratrac a borg Warner case?

If you go the route of a later model hemi and plan on swapping the axles to match, I have a few hemi swap parts used for JK's. I have the transmission adapter for the 545rfe to use the jk cases, motor mounts for the grand Cherokee, and a JK computer that could be flashed. I did a couple swaps into two JK's I had and bought some extra parts that can be hard to grab at times.

Quadratrac is a full time, aluminum, Borg Warner 1339. The Dana 20 is a part time, gear driven, cast iron case.

Honestly, if I was going to swap in an engine with over twice the power, I would being swapping the axles out too. Going drive drop could be done at the same time. But then you get rid of the closed knuckle, 19 spline front, and get proper brakes. But it is certainly more work and cost.
