It's a fold down license plate holder for running with the tailgate open, looks like yours is folded the wrong way, supposed to just flip the plate up from the bottom so that it hangs vertically when the tailgate is down.

It's so you can see the license with the rear hatch down while traveling. I don't think it is stock. It might be something that California required?

It had not occurred to me that with the tailgate down the license is not visible. I've only done that a few times but I imagine it might get you pulled over here in AZ as well. Perhaps a previous owner drove a lot with the tailgate down?

It's the GEN2 1414X introduced in march 1969 with avocado mist paint, charcoal interior and walnut trim panels on the body sides
As you know they all had automatic transmission, Buick V8, power steering, power brakes and power tailgate window
This one has the Air conditioning option too
The hubcaps or wheel covers , unlike the rims , are original
The little rectangular plate was on the firewall passenger side above the paint and trim codes

Any idea how many GEN2 were built in this configuration?

Around 1300 with this GEN2 configuration
Around 1200 for GEN1
Less for GEN3 (reflectors replaced by markers, not restricted to the combo avocado/charcoal, 350 buick or 360 amc), i don't have an accurate figure, above 500

So you can drive with the tailgate down, and still show your plate. AFAIK it's 100% Jeep factory equipment, though it may be mounted upside-down, as mentioned above. I would expect it to be lighted, up or down.

Heat riser for the air cleaner. What is in the trunk?
License plate bracket is factory and mounted correctly, I had to step
outside and check my 69 to be sure. Does it have a tilt wheel?
Been to the gas station yet? How did that turn out?
Beautiful documents for the glove box that you don't have.
Is this a one owner Jeep? Love the color, and the rims aren't bad,
we've all seen much worse, mine had sawblades.

p.s. My bad, it's the arm rest you're missing, not the glove box lid.
If you have the factory fan shroud, you really scored big-time. Pure unobtanium.

Thanks for the info. I have the armrest, and yes, it is tilt wheel. Not sure about fan shroud. What is so special about it? I would think that is a part that doesn't wear.

Cant find engine serial number tag. Any other items I can look for to verify engine year, ect?

the fan shroud helps to channel the air toward the fan... it is supposed to really help in hot conditions, especially if you have the AC condenser. The shroud is open at the bottom... so a bottomless shroud , it channels the air downward... I did a few mods some years ago by closing the gap at the bottom... then removed the added pieces and the temp dropped by at least 2 needle width...

typical shroud, with untypical fan from a mercedes 560, it is light weight by about 1/2lbs, and an 1" smaller with 9 blades instead of 7





the engine tag on the 360 is on the valve cover, passenger side as a screwed metal tag, from a typical intake manifold leak project of last year

Engine code is located on the block, driver side brtween the front exhaust manifold parts
If you have "P" in the code it's a 68, "R" it's a 69 , "S": 70, "T" : 71

I looked and did not see anything. I'll take a pic.
