Full Size Jeep Network

Not that I need anything else to do, but the Jeep addiction rages on and my expanded support group only seems to fuel the addiction- not cure, or alleviate it.

That being said I picked up a stock FC170 12 minutes from my house.

This is how I found her:







The yard was overgrown and the lady who lived in the house seemed a bit reluctant to come out of her house. I left my name and number on a post it note after a very brief convo with her and a few weeks later I got the call.



I had it towed on a flat bed.



I scrubbed the heck out of her to get rid of the moss, lichen and layers of dust. It has been sitting for over 17 years.





So now she sits, waiting her turn in line:



I scouted this M715 for a buddy, but then he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer to wanted to focus on healing and his dream commando build. So I bought it off of him.



He towed it to my house.



I sold the drivetrain and frame, sourced a GM K30 single wheel with a BBC, SM, NP blah, blah, blah.



Then left the two alone in the shop with some Barry White playing in the background and, well, you know:



So that’s the latest update on the progression of my addiction.

As of now, I’m spending the last days of my vacation working on the M715, and the quad cab.

I am out of room for sure! Haha. When the kids move out, I’ll have a bit more breathing room, but I’m in no hurry get them out, besides I enjoy doing my son’s 62 too much!

It didn’t fit as well as I would’ve hoped! BUT if you’re familiar with Chevy trucks of 75-83 era you notice they have something like a 4-6” hump that gradually tapers down mind way towards the front of the cab. I had to replicate that concept to some degree with the M cab. I just finished my second and final mod to the floor today (1st mod wasn’t enough to get the cab down to where I wanted it) and then I took the M715 seats apart to paint them after I shortened the brackets.

I was in full concentration mode as didn’t snap pics of the progress, but I hope to get pics tomorrow if I can break away from my daughter’s birthday party.

I’m going with a snow cammo paint scheme and stenciling “MCMWTC, Bridgeport, CA.” On the back of the seats (that was my last duty station in the Marines).



I did snap the above pic prior to painting over it so I could have a stencil reference for later!

M715:

I rebuilt the stock seats, modified them for the new floors, painted them in the snow camo style and now I’ve moved on to the 1st round with the stock center console:





I’ll snap pics of the interior once the center console mod is complete.

Originally it was used to house the 2 battery’s for the 24 volt set up. Not any more.

I welded up the rhino fascia so it all bolts to the 77 radiator support perfectly as well as the m715 fenders and can now pull it for final welding and prep for paint.

Then I dug into the center console- dropping the rusted bottom out and putting in a new floor pan- tact-welded in as I ran out of daylight.





I’ll button up both tomorrow.

It’s raining today, so I’m on the hunt for some canvas to cover the door panels, center console and the seats.

Man, that FC170. is in great shape, especially for it being a lawn ornament for so long!
My bride is in WA this week visiting family. She took the 5x8 trailer with her and had the guts to send me a message asking if I wanted her to police up any jeep parts while out there.. Silly girl! I almost had her convinced to roam some u-pull yards for me. 8v)

Right now, with all we have going on, it is best I not bring home any more projects, but dang you seem to keep finding great foundations out there.. I have to keep reminding myself that I need to save up the jeep funds to finish the GW and the 50 CJ3 that is patiently waiting its turn. You are killing my resolve! We need a 12 step program!

Yeah, the FC is a great find. I’m looking forward to tackling that beast when it is her turn.

Wow, that’s awesome- there’s plenty of Jeeps and Jeep parts in this area for sure. I hope she can get an much as you need. There’s a cj3a for 700.00 for sale locally as we speak. It’s been modified, and looks pretty rough. It might fit in her trailer!

Hahaha, my 12 step program seems to eliminate many of the traditional steps: step 1 find a cool Jeep, step 2 haggle, step 3 buy, step 4 bring home (or stash as a buddy’s place), step 5 sell unneeded parts to fund the builds and purchases! Step six repeat.

About a 1/2 gallon of Delfleet White polyurethane paint fell onto the brick.

So much for “cleaning up”.

That would be nice, but the back sides are not contoured like the tops AND they are not dyed- just gray concrete. I don’t know if all pavers are like that, but these are.

Bummer on the paint spill, but quick and good-looking work on the replacement pavers! Good luck with the Jeep projects!

I would blame that white spot on some big bird flying overhead.

Yeah, automotive paint is pricey. That was the biggest bummer for me. There was enough paint in the cab to complete the snow cammo paint on the M715... bummer for sure. Thanks!
