hi i recently bought a 87 GW that already had a 4 inch lift and 31s im looking to put 33s or 35s under it and wanted to get some opinions on which route i should take to get an extra 2 inches of lift. I kind of want to stay away from a body lift, i was thinking about getting some old leaf springs from a junkyard and throwing the two longest leafs in mine. I think that might make my on road ride horrible though and may not give me much lift at all. Im looking to get an extra 2 inches without spending a ton of money on new leafs all the way around so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Adding other leafs into an existing pack won't do much for you, especially if the existing pack is already "lifted" and the donor pack is a stock pack.
Your best options are either a 6" spring lift or OEM springs with a SOA (spring over axle) conversion and shackle flip in the rear. I know, not really what you wanted to hear. :-/
haha thats kind of what i figured i might just end up doing a 1 inch body lift and a little trimming to stuff some 33s under there and keep some clearance for the trails. I really didnt want to cut the fenders i like to try to keep the body as stock looking as possible but i dont really have the money to do a full 6 inch lift right now. oh well thanks for the reply
I'm in the same boat as you. Bought a 4" lift, should have bought a 6". I'm going to run 33's on mine. I have a rustys 4" and I'm going to add a 1" shackle up front, a zero degree spring in the rear (basically a 1 inch block but bolted into the spring pack) and some bushwacker/rugged ridge fender flares with trimming. If I still need a bit of clearance then I will add a 1" body lift. All in all I will net 5-6" plus the fender trimming and should fit 33x10.5 comfortably. With out the body trimming you will need the two full inches. I wouldnt say ideal but you can make it work.

If you can't improve it why waste your time?
so in the past couple weeks ive read of quite a few people saying they used 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch lift shackles for the front. However all i seem to find made specifically for the fsj is 1 inch shackles. Anyone know where these 2 inch shackles are available. I was thinking maybe people were using xj rear lift shackles for the front but im not sure if they are the same size or not. any thoughts
Biggest you can buy is 1" lift (which is actually a shackle 2" longer than stock). I used XJ rear lift shackles on mine, since it was done before people were selling FSJ specific front shackles.
