FSJ grills, anyone like the later cherokee grills ?

Post by candymancan »

Just wondering what you guys think of the grills from the later cherokee's, everytime i look at my wagoneers grill to me it doesnt look like a Jeep grill that youd be familier with. It always reminds me of a old chevy S10 front because my dad had a S10 pickup in the early 90s. I know of a 81 Cherokee with this grill in the picture.. What do you guys think of these later year grills ? I dont like the razor grills that everyone seems to go crazy about, and i dont like the gladiator grills either those gladiator grills dont look good on a grand wagoneer with the wood paneling IMO

Killer price! :-bd I had the the "muscle grill' on my GW front end for a while. The brush guard kind of masks over it. I liked it. My GW has had several faces over the years.

Sure. The grill frame with "Jeep" at the top is far more rare to find in good shape than the GW frame. If you go in the Waggy it will be about $38 including gas. ;)

Lol ill be going in the 5.9 ZJ but not much better on gas.. Well 17mpg vs 10mpg but yea. 41 miles one way So itd be $38 for gas and the grill in the wagoneers itd be like 47$, but i know a guy down in frederickburge VA who wants the tailgate motor and regulator i pulled so i might make $140 for that.

Also these junkyards are 99% spanish and muddy as SIN and they tend to put their junkyard cars in the parking lot and loaders drive around your vehicle so i deff am not bringing the wag down there

17 mpg? That math is more difficult than 10 mpg. I pass. ;)

Here is the cherokee im grabbing it from.. This Jeep had crazy amounts of good parts, stainless gutter rails (which i dont need as i have some froma 79 on mine, but i did grab em) Flawless radiator fan shroud which was a shocker, the regulator and motor work, the spoiler thingy on the back, perfect tailgate carpet, and oddly a perfect center arm rest.. And i guess the grill now lol. I hate this salvage yard though its so wet and muddy all the time.. They tossed this thing right in a water hole..

I have seen demands for a WT one pc. front bumper from time to time. The Cherokee chrome trim above the rear license plate can also have some value if it is straight and the chrome is not pitted.

Ok i pulled it off.. Put it on mine.. Only thing i dont like is it shows the radiator and stuff.. But i still like it my old one is shinier this one has that foggyness that the aluminum gets.

I need to tape off the grill and repaint the Jeep stamp ina flat black. I also used my chrome headlight bezels.. This grill had black ones ugly...

what do you think ?

Wait your grill has the grand wagoneer frame. Did you jist take the center inserts out and swap em ?

I guess i can do that to mine then. And keep the shiney grand wagoneer grill frame and just swap the center grill in ? Will the screws all line up ?

Or are there two muscle grills.. One with a Jeep stamp like mine and one thats just pajnted black on the top lile yours

Yes, I just used the grille insert in the GW frame. There are three types of muscle grilles - black, grey and chrome. They and the GW insert all fit both frames.

ahh i see then i think ill swap the inserts then. Since my gw one is still shiny vs the anodized alumnium being cloudy on this one.

Plus it seemed weird to have a jeep ornament abd jeep atamp on the grill lol

I dig the spot light set up on the old cherokee. Interesting.

Most people need more emblems to ID what we are driving. ;) "It's a Jeep? My grandfather had one just like this but it was an International."

Lol do see my emblems i added on the fenders ? The 60 early 70's ones, That say Jeep V8 360 lol. I repainted them got all 4 on ebay for like $50 and stuck em on using 3M emblem tape. At first i didnt like it but it grew on me.

TBH half the people who talk to me about the thing dont realize its a Jeep until they see the name tags everywhere, the 360 also helps because people also ask the engine size, but when they see the 360 now they just go oh dawg its a 360 lol.. Although most dont know what 360 is

Yea i liked it too, my friend who was with me didnt like it but i did. Old manual spot lights no rust either so whoever put em on did a good job. They put those fog lights on too, and there was a little deer horn on the bumper guard so i think this was a hunting Jeep lol

Those are a nice touch. Not sure I would try them with wood but we did put them on Krista's Waggy when she got rebuilt. The look is mostly 1973. The emblem that leads to confusion is 401...

I like both grills. I am a big fan of most of them. The pig nose being my least favorite. I went with the Rhino for the unique look. Most trucks don't have a smaller grill, even today.

Yea the pig nose is ugly IMO.

I agree the white emblem on the fender looked a bit weird with wood but i got used to it.

Btw this cherokee had a weird cargo cover to me anyway, it was like slid onto a sleeve that was riveted into the bench seat back, and the cover had those little round poppy clips on it. VS the roller covers that wagoneers have. Is this is the original cargo cover ? I think it is. If so how much are they worth ? I know the wagoneer covers are worth 300-400$ i sold a cordovan one a week ago for $300 on ebay to the United Kingdom lol
