I'm looking at getting a new to me carb. It is a 625 Holley street demon with a plastic bowl and the guy wants $200 for it. He used it for a week and decided he didn't care for it. He is a trustworthy guy too. Have any of you had experiences with the Street demons? Specifically the 625? It will be going on my '76 with the stock intake and a 401. I also have HEI on it. They're not great carbs for the street...or any application for that matter. There's a reason he didn't care for it. Also, that will not bolt to your factory intake without an adapter.

I'm a Holley loyalist, but those carbs look like a Ronco POS to me. I can't say I have any experience with them but that's on purpose.

Spend a few extra bucks and get a real Holley .

I just replaced my old Edelbrock with one on the Shop truck. I'd take it over a new Edelbrock for the street. However, there's no offroad support for them--like springs for the needles or bowl ike is available for the Edelbrock and other Holleys. Im happy with it.

Those street deamons are pretty much redesigned thermoquads. They wanted a square bore but with a spreadbore type secondaries so they have a weird 3 barrel design. There's a reason why nobody did that back in the day. It just isn't as good as a normal square bore or a real spreadbore.

If you do want to use a square bore carb on your stock 4v intake, you need to get an adapter meant for a 70's Ford 460 that came with a 4350 carb. It is NOT a standard spread bore that you find under a quadra-jet or the like.

There is nothing wrong with the "3 bore" design. The secondary being larger is fine as it is only going to be used under higher loads anyway. Its not going to hurt performance. If it was the primary, then it would hurt lower RPM throttle response.

The other option is using the trick kit I got for the existing Holley or buying a 1406

If you only drive on the street with minor trail usage, either of those carbs will be fine. The 1406 will be easier to tune.

I replaced my Holley DP 650 with a Edelbrock 1405 Performer Carb. Night and day better than the Holley and it starts SO much easier than before. Highly recommend a Edelbrock. I did have the aluminum Edelbrock intake already installed by PO. Easy install and tune. Increased my MPG too.
