I'd give my left.... :ymblushing:
The only way I see it getting one is if someone donated one.
With all the other V8s I have, and the 46 miles a day, I am leaning strongly towards the 95 4.0 I have, but I need the wire harness and ECM to go with it.
Its frustrating that I'm this far and have to stop. ~x(
So I had a little time and needed to move some things around today. I got a '92 4.0 and AOD and put them in for engine mount mock up. I will find a 5 speed for final use, but needed something to hold the back of the engine up. Enjoy.
AOD as in a ford AOD? How did you get it to bolt up? Or is it an AW-4? If its an AW-4, I would run it, unless you really want a manual. But then you need the computer for a 4.0 with a manual.
I do want the manual, and dont have the computer yet. Its the tranny that was in the 2wd GC I pulled this from. The engine was all I'm interested in. Its just a bunch of parts that are in my way. If the right 'puter and harness fell into my lap, I would probably run it.
That would be a 42RE. The difference is the electric plug on the driver's side right above and behind the 3 prong Neutral Safety Switch. That means it's 1/2 way to being an AW4 with a computer controlling it's shifting/torque converter lockup and not hydraulic like the A500.
Thats what I thought.
Is the PCM for it different then the AW4's?
The shop owner across the street from work knows the local U-pick-it owner. After telling him what I had done over the weekend, and that the project was at a stand still due to cash, he is going to talk to his buddy and see what he can do for me. I keep doing little jobs for him for free, I think it might just pay off for me. \:D/
Get the wiring harness from a '91 to '94 XJ with 4.0L auto and everything except the trans controller is under the hood. (it's under the glovebox with a short harness that passes through behind the heater on the passenger side of the trans hump) You want a Dodge NP208 so it bolts in (you'll need a 4x4 AW4 as well) and 1" spacer ring from Parts Mike. I had one set up to go into my '77 shortbox J10 then I found the '82 Honcho stepside. Same adapter will work with AX-15.
Mine is from a '90 Dodge Ramcharger. Not sure what other years. I forgot to mention the AW4 needs to be '91 up to be 23 spline. Before that they were 21 spline
It looks bitchin sitting in the yard,
Thanks for the encouragement. I cant wait to drive it.
It is stalled due to lack of funds to get whats needed. The biggest being the engine harness and ECM from a '92 to '95 Wrangler or GC. Just seems everyone wants them out here. I also need to start figuring out the glass and get it water tight again.
Hey Jeff! I can't believe I just now saw this thread! LOVE IT! I would also like to say you are a bigger man than I am for doing all this work without a garage! I can't wait to see this baby completed! I will keep my eyes peeled for junked Cherokees for that harness. I did see a whole '93 Cherokee on Craigslist for $650 that needs trans. work, but that's prob. WAY more than you want to pay for a harness.

Thanks Jeff, that means a lot. I dont think it will ever be as shinny as yours, but this "patina" is growing on me.
You will have to come out one weekend.
That thing will be cool whether it has paint or not! If you don't paint it, just be sure to leave it home when there is snow on the highways. That chemical crap they use now is as bad as being back east! BRING BACK THE CINDERS!! I was much happier to replace a windshield than the whole vehicle! Not to mention what it's doing to all the trees along the interstate. Where are the environmentalists for that! [end of rant]
Anyway, I would love to see the beast sometime! Maybe after the Holidays?
