So, does anyone have a 5 speed manual for a Ford 2.9 v-6? I have the AOD, but really think this needs a stick in the middle. Guess it'll get mocked up with the auto. X(
That 5sp would most likely be the basic T5. For a jeep, I HIGHLY advise going with the world class T5 from behind a V8. Should be noted the gearing in the T5 isn't very low. Although its possible the rangers used a different 5sp in those days. Not real sure.
These are '77 J-10 axles with 3.54's in them. I know the early XJ's used that ratio with the ODs, just have to do more research. This will probably be more of a commuter then a wheeler. Having a family, I need room for more then one and a cheaper commuter then a BB Caddy with no OD.
Are you going to be using a Ford 2.9? Or are you just looking for that trans? My Wifes old Xj had 3.54's with an AW4 and 29" tires and it cruised on the freeway great. But that was with a 4.0 that makes great mid range torque.
I have a complete Bronco II here with the EFI 2.9 and AOD. Yes I have been considering throwing it in here. I have done a 4.3 swap into one and it was very peppy, though the owner used the stock T-90 and I felt that was a limiting factor. I would love to do a 4.0, but this was free and I hate waisting things...
I wanted it to look like I did something, so I put some "bling" on it. They are 33x12.5x 15's. I also leveled the bed and body. I think I have them where I want them, the fenders line up when you look down it now.
The only really issue with the 2.9L is that it only produces 140hp. Most of the 4.3L are up at 195hp. I think a Ford 4L v6 would be great for that build are are extremely common. They were used in rangers and mustangs and in later models had 200hp and 240lb ft of torque. But it would be another expenditure, although not a large one most likely.
Thanks guys.
I'm just about to the point where I need to decide on an engine, so I can place other items. The more I think about Stukas comment and weather or not its worth doing if its going to be a dog. I wish another 4.0 would fall into my lap.
