variable speed wipers dont work

variable speed wipers dont work
my variable wipers quit working. when they worked you had two positions to the right, normal and fast. turn to the left and you could adjust the speed. now when you turn to the left they just go at normal speed. i would guess there is some realy for these, could that be it, or mabey the switch?

Did the wiper speed vary, or was it just intermittent? My '81 had intermittent...

Either the control box went bad (it's plugged in between the switch and the harness) or the ground came loose
