Raffle Bumper

Post by rstep »

Month ago took the 64 waggy and the cheorkee to a meet and greet ,show.Well we bought $ 20.00 in raffle tickets (5)each and won a few items sun shade, heavy diff cover for a d30, hood hold downs for JK and this a bumper for JK.
Image

It is a Ballistic Fab bumper,3/16 cnd bent unit sells for about $150.00 not bad.
Got some offers to take it off our hands since we don't have a JK.
So Started to work threw PM's with Brandon and this is how it looks now.
First up a winch hoop it is 1 3/4 .120 tubing bent at 45 degrees on each end. for bending I used a JD bender and I had a length of tubing laying around it took about 44".
Image
Once the angle was chosen the ends were cut to fit flush and on to some gussets.
Image
Choose some 10 ga flat steel again just left overs . Used a 1 1/8 hole saw for the main hole and standard drill bit for the smaller holes.
Next up was some tow points, decided to go with 1" blocks, but started with 1/2 x2 1/2 flat bar tac welded the 2 pieces together and started drilling the holes out 1 1/8 hole saw on the drill press and a little bit of time gives a nice cut threw.
Then cut a grove at the base and the center point to by fully welded to joint the 2 pieces.
Image
After this everything was checked and welded up in all about 6 hours and 14 beers.
Image
A little finish sanding and primer and it's good to go.

And it's on!

I did have to do some cutting and grinding on the frame, which seems to be a common deal on JK's for after market bumpers.

Few scratches in the paint from shipping, but nothing major. As mentioned above I had to do some cutting and grinding on the frame to get it on, but that seams par for the course with JK bumpers that have a skid that wraps underneath. I have gotten several compliments on it as well.

The only real issue is I think I am going to need to find some bolts with larger heads. Since this bumper has slots rather than holes like some others, there is less material for the bolts/washers to grab. So I will need to address that at some point. But not an issue for the time being.
