Clutch pedal and linkage for manual conversion

Post by Loren Jones »

Hi,

I'm just finishing the teardown phase of my build and will start a build thread soon, but I'm wondering what cluch pedal and linkage people have used for manual conversions. The trans is a Dodge diesel NV4500 so I will plan to use a dodge pickup master cylinder.

Should I just use a clutch pedal assembly from a Dodge? Anybody here have suggestions on how to mount and connect the pedal and linkage?

Thanks for any help.

The obvious donor is another Jeep truck or wagon.

Where are you located?

I am in South Dakota. I can check local junkyards for manual trans FSJ's.

I guess the method of mounting the pedal and linkage that would come with the clutch from another FSJ would be easier. Then you just have to connect the Jeep clutch linkage to the donated Dodge master cylinder. I guess that would be easier than fabricating some way to mount a Dodge pedal system in the Jeep.

Any other thoughts? Anyone with experience on this kind of thing?

Thanks,
Loren

You don't want to use stock linkage for that Trans. Hydraulic is far superior. You should be able to find a pedal assembly pretty easily. They are the same from 74-87. Earlier ones may be the same too, but haven't ever compared one. Keep an eye out for people parting out a rig that came with a manual.

I called a local salvage yard today and he said he has a manual trans FSJ in the yard. I will go out Friday to see if I can find a pedal assembly. Then it is just a matter of converting that pedal assembly to actuate a Dodge hydraulic master cylinder I guess.

Thanks for the tips guys.

If you run into trouble fitting a master cylinder, I have a Low Profile kit that provides hydraulic set up for the FSJ without having to move the brake booster. PM me if your interested.
