I think it depends on how you choose to mount it. Since my entire drive train is non-OEM, I'll have to make mounts for all of it. If that's the case you can choose how you want to line it up. If your going to use some pre-existing mounts then your stuck with that location.

The guys at Novak say that you have to offset small block GM motors, I assume it will be similar but just curious. Getting ready to do a similar swap. I think i'll be using a th400 with a jeep np205, but not set on anything for certain.

What engine do you plan to use?

I'm excited for this, this is a great engine!

With the auto, just be careful of room for the front driveline, it can get close to the trans pan and solenoids. Mock up a driveshaft before you place the mounts.

It's not in yet but looks like it shouldn't be a problem to be straight and centered. The guy to ask for a definite answer is JeepinPete. He has done this before.

Just a little update. Changed the hybrid D60/D44 idea for straight D60s. Here is the Craigslist picture of the donor. D60 front and rear from a 91 Dodge 350 with the wheels and tires for $800.00. Not a smoking deal but it seems like axles around here are rather expensive when compared to places like the Denver area.

Image

Of course that will make the front diff a passenger side drop. The plan is to make a Dodge 241/NP205 doubler setup. That will allow a 2:1 (205) a 2.72:1 (241) or a 2 x 2.71 (Double low) I hope to keep the revs low and economical on the highway but retain some low end control off road. The suspension will be SOA from the Dodge but the plan is to keep it about 4 inches over stock and 31" tires. Most of the big parts are purchased- still need to figure out the turbo as the engine did not come with one.

Nice choice on the turbo ;) I LOVE the turbo sound, and the extra boost is nice too. Unfortunately, a turbo would be pretty useless on my stock 258

Little more update. The deal on those axles fell through. I have, however, found another set. I found the front on Craigslist (300 miles away) and called the guy. He has been great. He knows where a yard is that has several old style Dodge truck and he even called and made a deal for a rear. So, I have a front and rear D 60 with springs, wheel tires, front DS, steering box, and an NP 205 all out of a 93 Dodge W350. I can't believe how hard is was to find the axles! I am leaning toward a NP 241/205 doubler for the T-case but recently came across this...

I have yet to contact the guy but I'll keep trying as this seems on par with indications in the thread. Does anybody have first hand knowledge of this doubler?

The builder says it's coming along nicely. I am excited and hope it's on the road by March.

how are you going to go SOA and keep in only 4 inches over stock?

There was a tilt built into the adapters when the bread trucks were repowered. It was for clearance, not out of necessity. Some people started making auto adapters with no tilt.

Drive train is in and axles are on! Decided to go with single NP205 for t-case as the doubler would have left the rear DS very short. Going to do a rear disk conversion using manual calipers for the e-brake. Kinda pricey but I used the Eldo e-brake calipers on my SOA wagon and was not impressed with them. This will give a solid hydro caliper for brakes and a 2nd and totally manual caliper for the e-brake.

Looking at rear fuel tanks now... anyone have an opinion? Thinking about the 42 gal suburban tank

Looking at lockers. Pretty much settled on Ox. Any reason to choose a different one?

Little more update...

Some changes are happening. I found an 88 with an awesome body!. The 87 Isuzu project is getting a little rusty in the rear so the new plan is.... 2 vehicles of course.

#1 the nice 88 with a 6.2 GM diesel, 700R, and NP203 (yeah, yeah, I know) I ordered Rancho 44044 for the front and will block the rear to match. 285- 75-16s riding on J-truck (D44 front D 60 rear 8 lug) axles and bushwacker flares.

#2 The original 87 Isuzu project- 4bd1-t, 47 RH, NP 205, D60/70, Tires are 285-75-16. Now the interesting part. Crew cab chopped- frame extended for 10 foot bed and a custom cab-over camper that sort of resembles an M725 (with a cabover)

I recently moves from MO to NM and love the local mountains here. My PSD with cabover camper is tall and kinda unstable on the roads. I think this will make an awesome camper/BOV/ZA machine.

Dave, the builder says the 6.2 might be done by Christmas. I hope so because I really need a vehicle to drive and have been holding off because this is to be my DD (for the rest of my life)
