Steering column fix

Post by jongreve »

I don't know who this Dale character is, but I'm super thankful he took the time and effort to do a write up on it.

On removing the pins, I didn't have an 8-32 machine screw long enough and/or a socket short enough for that trick to work. I tried drilling different size holes in thin strips of wood, worked for one side, not for the other. After some head scratching, I ended up using the steering wheel nut as the "socket" and used 3 washers stepped up to size, worked like a charm.

Yeah, those things are a PITA! I tried to find the tool for removing them, to no avail... I stripped several screws before finally finding one that would handle the pressure of knocking that thing out. Man, I hope I never have to do that thing again...
