Hide-a-Step

I need a step-up for my 77 Cherokee passenger side and wanted as "low profile" as I could get. This looks perfect but they don't make one for the FSJ. Before buying one and making the necessary mods to fit I was curious if anyone else has done this.

Looks like a good option. I'd be interested to see if it works for my 77 also.

Never seen these but I like it. Might be just what I'm looking for to get to the bed of the J10.

Good find, interesting, what about a pdf for detailled installation instructions, or a steady video!

They do have a few videos and install instructions on the site. I plan on taking some measurements then trying to figure which one would most easily adapt. I might need to fab a mounting bracket, not likely one would bolt right in.

Thats a pretty neat setup. Its like a very small manual version of the amp steps, which use a similar mechanism to retract.

One downside is they would not be as much of a use for getting out of the vehicle since they auto retract. Fine if you just jump out. But if you have a significant other that is on the shorter side, they may want something to help get out too.

But these are way more cost effective than the various powered steps out there.

Would be nice if they offered measurements of each version. Though perhaps you can email them and ask for that.

These are neat. I'll definitely be keeping tabs. I can get some measurements off my YJ if needed to compare profiles to FSJs. SIL has a JL that I could potentially scope out for some dimensions. Wife is okay with just sliding out, so auto retracting is okay. It's the climbing in that is a challenge. I have resisted steps since I wheel some. A mounting bracket that bolts to the frame would be the ticket, IMO. That would keep stress off of the floor pans and water entry points (holes) off the back side of rocker panels.

It looks like the only way to mount one of these would be large sheet metal screws, which I'm not sure would provide the proper strength. Welding would be an option but at almost $200 a pop I am not going to buy one and experiment. The exiting difficulty is a valid point too. My welder can custom make a "low profile" step for less so that's the route I am going.
