Pic of 360 engine fuel return line routing 1979 Please

Post by meijnew »

Anyone have a pic of an original 1979 with a 360 engine, the fuel return line routing from the fuel filter to the metal line at the left front of the frame ? Is there a formed steel line with rubber hose at each end ? Thanks for your help

The rubber hose goes from the fuel filter (orientate the return end on the filter pointing up) and runs down along the fuel pump and into the smaller metal line on the frame

the fuel lines run inside the driver side frame rail behind the gas tank along with the l/h parking brake cable, there are 2 lines 1 is 1/4 inch 1 is 5/16 , the standard fuel filter has 3 nipples 1 supply from the pump, 1 goes to the carb, and the other is a by-pass return to the tank, there are 1 or 2 vent/over turn check valves that can be groken and cause a fuel leak point of issue when filling the tank to full, also these check valves have rubber fuel hoses that go to the charcoal canister that can cause fuel vapors in a garage if cracked , just what i know

Candyman addresses your question. There is no metal line from the return nipple on the filter to the steel line on the frame, only rubber hose.

This is pictured in the '74-80 factory parts book, available for purchase at RockAuto, BJ's, other places. Not expensive.

OP did not ask for this - I would comment anyway - fuel hoses will be rotted after 50 years. Hoses under the hood are a fire risk if neglected. Bulk hose sold at the chain parts stores is too cheap and does not last. Suggest you find Gates or Continental hose for this application. Or, fuel injection hose meant for higher pressures is both more expensive and higher quality, and would be good for this application.
