Post by dodgerammit »

Title says it all. Just dropped on YT.

The original look stayed on this 2nd iteration of the build.
Enjoy!

I just watched this on my lunch break! Makes my mind up about the occasionally un-loved quadratrac!! If it held up to the abuse a money-no-object guy threw at it with a Ferrari v12 up front, I guess it’s good enough for me haha.

Ya know, I asked a factory exec visiting the dealership back in 1974ish about manual transmissions and the Quadratrac. He said the transfer case could not handle the impact load of a manual transmission, and they had no plans to offer full-time with a manual transmission.

When you can afford to buy a Ferrari engine for a Wagoneer conversion, I'd say the expense of fixing or replacing the transfer case is not an issue. May as well build it and see how long it lasts. Like a Ferrari, this is an adult toy and the requirements for daily driving do not apply. Plus this Jeep will never see off-road usage, or towing, or even low range I expect (there may be no room for low range behind the long engine and transmission). If I wanted full-time behind a manual I'd think about one of the NP cases where the rear-wheel drive goes direct to the driveshaft, not through a chain.

Well, Bill did die the following year, but put a crap ton of miles on it in the year he drove it. Seemed like the 4x4 was something he used going up in elevation to the resort in snow country. As far as the engine length, the video mentions the engine bay is stretched to accommodate it.
