Gauge cluster removal - stuck?

Post by AtlantaDan »

I am trying to remove the gauge cluster to lube up the squeaking speedo cable and speedo. I've removed everything around it and disconnected the speedo cable, and watched the video(s) online, but my cluster just will not tilt out far enough to reach back there and disconnect things. It's like it is hanging up on something. Before I break anything, I thought I'd ask the experts.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Did you unbolt the steering column from the bottom of the dash? It needs to hang down a little to clear the cluster for removal.

Year/model/equipment is needed in every post.

My advice does not apply then. Don't know about the later cluster.

Did you disconnect the speedo cable at the cruise control module under the hood? Is the speedo cable stuck on the grommet in the firewall?

I replaced my speedo cable about a year back. I don't recall any complications aside from having to disconnect the speedo cable from the cruise control module under the hood and physically push some slack through the grommet in the firewall to get the guage cluster far enough out to disconnect the cable from the rear of the cluster.
