Throttle cable too short

Post by Horsman »

Installed an Edelbrock intake with a Holley four barrel carb on my 79 Wagoneer AMC 360. Reinstalled the OEM accel cable bracket, but the cable is too short to attach to the little ball on the Holley carb lever. Has anyone run into this and what was the solution? See pic.

Yes. There is an adapter that moves where the clip on part of the throttle linkage is attached. I don't have a part number handy but will take a picture of mine.

I 'think' it is edelbrock part number 8034.

"The Edelbrock #8034 Am Throttle Cable Adapter for 79 & Later Applications this adapter plate allows the relocation of the original throttle cable. This adapter plate is required when installing a 4V carburetor on an AMC vehicle originally equipped with a 2V carburetor."

Can you modify the throttle cable mounting bracket, moving it forward on the manifold by ca 1/2"? If there's not enough steel in the bracket base to redrill the mounting holes, I'd think you could make a plate to go between the manifold and bracket that moves it forward. Raising the height of the bracket by a fraction should not matter to the flexible cable.

Thanks, I did see the part available from Edelbrock. Would be curious to see the picture of it installed. Thanks!

Yes, I figure I could modify something push comes to shove. I figure someone here has run into this before me. I was also told there might be something that attaches to the carb that relocates the little ball toward the rear of the carb. Have not found that yet.

Okay, I'll snap a clear picture of it installed tomorrow. It's not 'cheap' at $30 but it gets the job done and you can move onto the next thing.

Here is a picture. My rig isn't 'clean' so it might be a bit hard to see but basically the stock bracket sits on top of the adapter.
