Looks like the '91 is capable to participate with the big boys.
Get the '77 back on the road and you could have a his/hers team leading the pack out there :)

At this point the "77 is better offroad, but the "91 will pass a few gas stations...

77 probably due to heavier truck so better traction.
Sure there are other factors that also make the difference.

If towing, this is true if not and everything is equal it is not. Heavier is not better, trust me been there and played with that. The only time heavy is better is if it is the front axle, it will drag you to the top, it’s in the rear it will hold you at the bottom like an anchor. There is a reason competition rock crawlers build as light as they can and be robust, then fill the front tires full of water.
The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.

Oh yes....tricks of the trade.
Found it very interesting when a kid growing up on a farm/ranch the first time I watched one of the big 4x4 tractor tires changed. Had to have the fluid pumped out of it, rubber swapped, then refilled.
Reason became clear years later, when I understood why, but as a kid we thought it was cool to walk by and give that valve stem a little push and watch the chloride spray out :)

Yes the '77 does keep the tread on the trail better. It has more articulation, but I also believe being a wide track also gives it some extra benefits as well.

I do have front sway bar disconnects and I removed the rear sway bar on the '91. I am going to install a shackle relocation kit on the rear springs. They are supposed to create more flex in the back. We shall see. Next will be a locker.
