I was wondering about this too. I know the stock ones on the '63-73s are 32" from either end, centered. I would think that orientation would be determined first by whether or not the pin is centered (and thus shift the axle front/back), and second by putting the bigger bushing in the mount directly on the frame, and the smaller one on the shackle side.

This is the first thing I would check; I personally wouldn't mess with the longer shackles.

I considered that but I think they're right. Bigger spring eye goes at the rear. That's what the Bj's instructions say but I'll call Deaver to confirm.

Longer shackles won't help correct the angle, they'll just make the issues with less than ideal angles more noticeable.

The spring orientation won't impact the shackle angle. The main leaf is either too short, or is over arched.

Did you ever solve this shackle problem? Considering same springs for my 71.

Still unresolved and I haven't contacted Deaver yet. More of a winter project for me. I haven't noticed it settling in more but I also haven't put many miles on it. Good luck.
