1978 Cherokee Tank Lines.

Can anyone tell me how the fuel tank fill and vent lines run on a 1978 Cherokee? Do they run through the frame cutout where the rear brake line does?

Have you looked at page 1J-4 in the '78 TSM here? https://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html Download "1978 Complete Shop Manual." Shows them running through a hole in the frame.

Wow I totally missed that in the image!
The new hoses I have don't seem to fit well in there and I am worried about them rubbing but I will recheck tomorrow.

My '71 doesn't have that hole in the frame I don't think--at any rate I wound up threading my filler hose and vent through between the frame and the body, I think. I have the '78-'79 tank and filler.

78 and 79 (maybe 77 too?) have a different fuel delivery hose routing.
Different part numbers for the hoses too.
I learned all this when I had to replace all those lines.

According to the book, through '77 have the same picture of the same steel tank with a larger filler neck. '78-79 are still steel but go to the smaller fill hose, with their own picture/page. 1980 goes to the plastic tank on another page.

I count 17 different fill hose numbers for the model 10 (wagons) from '74 through '80. If you own one of these vehicles and need specific parts for the fuel system (or any system), I'd suggest you make the modest investment in the '74-80 parts book. It will help you, along with the TSM.

Note also that MTS http://www.mtscompany.com/J-truck.htm sells replacement tanks for these vehicles and a lot of the associated parts. They have pictures on their web site, and you could ask them about their offerings.
