sierrablue, a bit of information, the 69 buick 350 has a big short coming, its the upper valve train is a weak link at high rpm it pumps the lifter dry, you need to block 2 oil gallery ports, install lifters, push rods, and rocker arms from a 1970 as buick found this out and changed the oiling system, this is from my experience with buick muscle cars, my dream is my current 83 cherokee with a buick 455 , stock stats 390 hp at 3500 rpm but a wapping torque monster 525 ft lb at 2500 rpm torque baby its all about the torque. with holly sniper/hyperspark the numbers really jumpup
Mine's a '70 or '71 block anyway--not an issue for me
Power yes but not mileage. But what that costs compared to what I have in mine, there's no contest. And you still can't get parts for it most anywhere.
I bet it would keep up for mileage too, depending on how you drive it. The '88 had a .060" over 401 with TBI, headers, 3" exhaust, and an Edelbrock intake...would spin both rear tires (limited slip, 31"s) clear through an intersection and get 15 mpg on that same tank. Usually it got 17 or 18 on the first half and 12-13 on the second half. Still had the 727, non locking hubs, etc.

I can't decide, so I have two, one of which I'm building currently. First is a crew cab J truck with brow, razor grille, short bed, and a modern drive train. 6.0, 6l80e, atlas transfer case, and Dana 60 axles with coilover 4 link front suspension. The second one is a 78 Cherokee S wide track built similarly to Greg H's blue Cherokee. Mustang 2 front end, linked rear, Nissan RB25 or Toyota 2JZGTE compound turbo and 6 speed tremec magnum. The Cherokee I'm in the process of building but with more attainable goals like a crown vic front end, NA-T 2JZ, and probably not a tremec or compound turbos. Dude that rendering looks frickin amazing! I love the green! Is there a specific green you are looking at when it comes time to paint your cherokee? When I paint my truck I plan on the dark green that you see on some CJ7’s and I think you could get it on SJ’s too? Correct me if I’m wrong about the second part, I’m not sure.

The green is based off of Paolo's 78 Cherokee S, unsure of the color code. According to paintref.com the green color for that year would be loden green.
