something different fails in block lift

Post by fulsizjeep »

I have never seen this before so tossing it out to general audience. These 2" blocks were installed in Oct 98 with 2" AAL for the Black Diamond lift I had installed at Tar Heel 4x4 in Charlotte. I have had 5" on the front for a while and wanted to get the back leveled off and had 3" blocks and ubolts from Jaime here. The guide pins in the blocks got jammed in the spring perch. With some advice from Tad, I got on them with a couple new cold chisels and some PB Blaster and knocked all the steel and rust out of the holes. Stood me up a couple days on the job... Oh Well.

Are those old blocks aluminum? If so, I had the same problem on my Cherokee. PO had installed 2" aluminum blocks. When I changed out the lift they were extremely hard to get off/out. In my case it was indifferent metals working together in disharmony.

They are cast steel blocks.

I figured it would loosen up with some brute force and determination.

some form of anti seize would have helped to prevent this! i use it on everything that bolts back together in a suspension!
bushings,bolts,springs,etc!

Looks like you need a traction bar to relieve the stress.

Alot of movement on the blocks. Alignment pin wore out & hole in perch is wallered. I can't stand the alum ones. Same goes for those alum pinion angle degree shims....junk.

I would ream that bigger hole out enough to accept a "sleeve" for teh alignment pin and make sure the next set of Ubolts was super tight. Some guys use rectangular steel tube (heavy wall) for their spacers.
