78 Cherokee Progress

Post by curtmacd »

I've been making a lot of progress on the Cherokee. Paint, grille and lights installed.

I love the color and look. I am not sure about the grill. I like the idea but the rest of the truck is so clean the rough look of the grill kinda sets it off.

Pro tip...try getting some BBQ grill scour pads and knock down the high spots. I did this under the Jeep and everyone liked the results. I'll be doing this on the fenders and rockers once we get it painted. If you don't like the black, you can always paint it body color.

Well, she is all done!
Just finished installing the new headliner and sound deadening. Also installed a Kenwood double din with all the goodies. Nice to have bluetooth and a backup camera. Just ordered new dome lights and seat belts for it as finishing touches. I need to get her on the road now and have the front end aligned. All new, bumper to bumper.

Beautiful. The exterior is awesome and I love what you did with the interior too. Very nice.

Maybe asked before??? What brand are the mirrors. I like them, modern functionality but don't look too modern. Awesome rig, nicely done!

What brand of paint did you use for the grill and the frame?

Thanks for the likes guys!
The mirrors are 1995 Ram mirrors with the BJ's Offroad billet mounts. I primed the mounts and painted them satin black. I shot the grill with Extreeme Liner I purchased on Amazon. I used it before inside a Gator bed and loved it. The "Quicksand" color is actually a Toyota color that I happened to like and it was very similar to the original paint color, except leans towards tan and browns, rather than the original paint that leaned towards yellow. The frame was spray painted with POR15.
I was very fortunate to have a completely rust free truck to begin with, except for the lower tailgate area that had a thin line of rust. I found a Chief tailgate that I was able to strip down and refinish, that was perfect.
I wanted some modern technology with the sound system, so I installed a Kenwood system with Alpine "S" speakers. I also applied FatMat throughout the entire truck for insulation and sound deadening. Made a big difference.
My last addition to the truck is a rear hot water heater that I am installing in the very rear passenger side panel where the storage panel is located. I am fabricating a really nice system designed to go in a BlueBird school bus which will use hot water via a booster pump to expedite water to the rear of the vehicle. This will help distribute heat quickly to the entire truck during sub zero temps. The blower will be controlled with a 3 position key fob. The grill cover will be louvered aluminum, like an attic fan, it will remained closed unless air forces it open. (My own design) May be a big flop, so I will post pics when finished if it turns out ok.....LOL
