20th anniversary "RE-Invasion"

Post by Grand_Wag_85 »

Some of you guys are not on Facebook so I wanted to start a thread "officially" announcing the 20th anniversary RE-Invasion happening in 2022. Tentative dates are July 14-17 2022.

In 2002 there were 99 FSJ's in attendance, for 2022 we're hoping to smash that record...so much so that the folks at Guiness World Records have indicated interest in showing up if we can break the previous number. Still working on the details.

We have some vendors who have expressed interest in showing up and we are still working on a lot of the details.

So far Nikkormat(Gabe) and myself are working on the planning with guidance from the great folks who have planned previous ones.

Stay tuned, the big one is near!

So for the 20th anniversary you want to break the laid back unorganized tradition and invite vendors and make it a much more organized event?

I'm down with that! Should be a really good time. Can't do it every year so the 20th anniversary sounds like fun. I will mark my calendar.

I will show up early but if we have an early birds eggs benedict breakfast for a few dozen jeepers, I am gonna need a bigger... stove?

That's what I was thinking, try one that's organized and see what happens. If it ends up working out do it again every 10 years or so.

I do very much love our laid back style.

We'll have to get you a bigger grille and a ton of eggs :p

I am coming up with plans for getting mine up there as well. I would prefer to not drive it that far but if I do, I will break up the trip into shorter segments!

I've been wanting to attend an event for years but never had a trail Rig FSJ to go. However, the 20th would be an Awesome reason to make this my first!

Thankfully the trails in Ouray don't require a purpose built trail rig. One of our members did Engineer Pass in a pristine stock GW a few years back.

Flashback: In 2005 Krista and I had 3 FSJ at the Invasion. I had just drove my dad's 88 to CO a couple months before. Little did I know that the brake lines were about to become swiss cheese. Had to leave it in Ouray for a couple weeks before I could go back with a trailer. Not sure I want to go through that again. Prepare, prepare, prepare...

I know the KOA has new owners, seen some mixed results with them? How was it this year, are they looking like long time owners. We really enjoyed the KOA last time, I hope its not being ruined? Would still go, but, the KOA was great and would miss it if it went away.

This year, while some things were definitely different (new spots added, new camping areas added (including where we normally shoot the group photo) and the gemstone panning rig) overall it felt the same. Does sound like “our area” will be turned into RV parking so who knows. I’m cautiously optimistic.

We are working on the arrangements for 2022. We have a couple of different locations in mind to host the event. We have not yet determined if the camping will be at the host location or if it will be structured like the original invasion in 2002 where everyone does their own thing for lodging.

We are considering this option because we are expecting a LARGE turnout and in years past it has been a huge undertaking to manage reservations even with a MUCH smaller turnout. This seems to be how most of the other groups handle it.

Regardless of it all we *WILL* be keeping some of our favorite aspects of the invasion such as the bonfire, the raffle, the BBQ/potluck.

On a side note. We need a logo. Any volunteers? :p
