Power takeoff gasket source?

Post by Triumph215 »

Good morning all,
I need to replace the leaking Power takeoff gasket on the reduction unit and can’t find one. Anyone have a source or PN?

Needs more background. Is this a PTO on a Dana 20 transfer case, or on a Borg-Warner T-18 transmission?

I suspect there will not be a source today for anything except the gasket that mates to the transfer case or transmission. Likely you will have to make a gasket if that's what you need. You might try HermTheOverdriveGuy.

You are right, my apologies.
It’s a quadratrac and power take off is a misleading name to me but that’s what they call it in the TSM. It’s a 4 bolt access cover on the very back and center of the low range unit. I can find darn near every gasket for this thing except this one.
Thanks

You mean the cover where the low range unit would connect?

Jeep PN 8122406. It should be in the '62-73 parts book on the Tom Collind site too - you could look it up. 1973 was the first year for the Quadratrac.

Here's NOS on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114897907785 SHould be part of a "rebuild kit" or gasket kit if such things still exist for the Quadratrac. Crown? Yep - https://www.amazon.com/Crown-Automotive ... B009X1SJZK Pretty common that such gaskets no longer are offered on their own, and you have to buy some kind of gasket and seal kit. Basic Google-fu.

I don't see the gasket he needs in those kits.

On the back of the low range unit, there is a small cover, with four bolts. I would think a gasket kit for the low range unit itself would have one. But I can't find a kit for the low range unit.

Looking at the book, that flat gasket appears to be the only seal or gasket that is used exclusively with the reduction unit. Jeep PN 8122707. No source online, but making a flat gasket is easy. Buy gasket paper, trace it out and use scissors. I use a paper punch to nibble out the needed bolt holes, or you can use leather punches.

There is a seal between the reduction unit and the case, which I linked to above.

PS - I overlooked another seal - the reduction unit shift lever o-ring, which is Jeep PN 912399. This is a ca 1960 part number, and it must be used on some other Jeep application TBD. If I wanted to replace that, I'd look for something similar at the hardware store or plumbing supply.
