Original Manual Wagoneer?

Post by AZOutdoors »

Next to the brake pedal on my '66 Wagoneer where a clutch would be is a hole at the top and a round rubber stop pad at the bottom. The vehicle is currently an automatic. Does this hole and rubber stop mean that it was originally a manual or did Kaiser build them all this way?

At that point in time most were manuals, so it would make sense for them to build for manual first, auto second.

Is yours a column shift? Only super wagoneers had the floor shifter (for autos). Swapping out the column is obviously not hard, but yours does appear to be properly paint matched and not seeing any other colors under it from a repaint. And yes, the 3sp column shift was available, but the shifter is different from that of an auto.

There is a parts book online for this era of Wagoneer. I'd look to see whether they use different floor pans, depending on equipment. I expect they would not. You could also look for different part numbers for the sled bracket (goes from dash to floor and supports the pedal(s)). https://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html

The parts book will help you.

Thanks for the comments. That parts book online is an awesome resource tgreese. I wish this was a Super Wagoneer....but no evidence of a floor shifter. By the way...love this site Stuka! How many posts do you need to make before you can send PM's? I would like to reach out to some folks I met here in AZ via PM's. Thanks!

You are just a few posts away, but I went ahead and moved you out of newly registered users, so you are good to send PMs.
