My 71 Wagoneer tailgate glass has a piece of chrome that attaches to the top and sides of the glass. I just installed new window wipes, and this trim catches on the rubber of the wipe/seal when I lower it. Anyone else with older Wagoneers run into this and any solutions other than removing the chrome trim? Thanks
Oh wow, I have never seen a chrome trim on the tail gate window. Not that it doesn't exist, just never seen one. I hope you get an answer to your question!
According to the '74-80 parts book, the last year for the tailgate glass frame is 1975. It's group 23.008-1 and Jeep PN 956885. This is a mid-60s PN and likely existed from the beginning of the line. The '62-73 J-series book shows these same numbers for all Wagoneers '62-73.
There is a beltline strip inner and outer, 25.065-1 and 25.066-1. The outer strip is the same '62-80 (and I presume later), PN 966331. The inner strip is revised for 1979, from 966079 to 5462332. I presume the inner strip was revised to work better without the frame around the glass, and that's what's being reproduced as a new replacement.
If the inner strip were in good shape, I would leave it in place and just replace the outer strip. If the parts are being made right, this should work with the earlier window style.

Thanks for the info. The inner and outer strips (wipes) were both non-existence, so I had to go with the newer ones. The stainless steel strip would catch on the outer strip and fold it under. I removed the stainless steal piece for now and it works fine, but I would like to put it back on. I will see what happens after the outer wipe has been on all summer and heated up and softened up a little.
Might need to put the strip on, then go around and see if it needs wrapped a little tighter towards the glass where it catches, as parts are just not made as well as they used to be.
Do you get my thought?
The trim channel might need to be crimped a little closer where it fits over the glass?
Pinch it together a bit?
